1 1 Section 1. Section 35A.8, Code 2001, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 5. The executive director shall adopt
1 4 rules, pursuant to chapter 17A, to restrict access to a
1 5 veteran's United States department of defense form 214 only to
1 6 the veteran named on the form, the veteran's spouse, the
1 7 veteran's immediate family members, a legal guardian or a
1 8 legal advisor of the veteran or the veteran's family, or a
1 9 funeral director acting on behalf of a deceased veteran's
1 10 family. Each person requesting access to the form shall show
1 11 proof of the person's identity with a valid photo
1 12 identification card.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill directs the executive director of the commission
1 15 of veterans affairs to adopt rules, pursuant to Code chapter
1 16 17A, to restrict access to a veteran's United States
1 17 department of defense form 214 only to the veteran named on
1 18 the form, the veteran's spouse, the veteran's immediate family
1 19 members, a legal guardian, a legal representative, or a
1 20 funeral director acting on behalf of a deceased veteran's
1 21 family. Each person requesting access to the form shall show
1 22 proof of the person's identity with a valid photo
1 23 identification card.
