  1  1    Section 1.  EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE PROVIDERS – AMNESTY
  1  2 REINSTATEMENT.
  1  3    1.  An emergency medical care provider as defined in
  1  4 section 147A.1 who was previously certified pursuant to
  1  5 section 147A.6, and whose certification has expired may be
  1  6 reinstated subject to the following requirements:
  1  7    a.  An application for reinstatement shall be submitted on
  1  8 or before December 31, 2002.
  1  9    b.  The Iowa department of public health shall verify that
  1 10 the applicant possessed a previously active emergency medical
  1 11 services certification, and approve an application for
  1 12 reinstatement pursuant to this section.
  1 13    c.  Approved applicants shall complete refresher
  1 14 certification courses and submit a reinstatement fee, to be
  1 15 determined by the department by rule.
  1 16    2.  Reinstatement requirements shall be completed within
  1 17 six months of an approved reinstatement application.  Upon
  1 18 successful completion of the requirements and payment of the
  1 19 fee, an applicant shall be reinstated without the necessity of
  1 20 passing any otherwise applicable practical or written
  1 21 certification examination.  
  1 22                           EXPLANATION
  1 23    This bill provides for the reinstatement of a previously
  1 24 certified emergency medical care provider whose certification
  1 25 has expired, without the necessity of passing a practical or
  1 26 written certification examination.  The bill provides that an
  1 27 application for reinstatement shall be submitted on or before
  1 28 December 31, 2002.  The bill provides that the Iowa department
  1 29 of public health shall verify that an applicant possessed a
  1 30 previously active emergency medical services certification,
  1 31 and approve the application.  The bill additionally provides
  1 32 that an approved applicant shall complete required courses and
  1 33 pay a fee as established by rule, and shall complete the
  1 34 reinstatement requirements within six months of application
  1 35 approval.
