  1  4 EXPANDING THE TIME PERIODS WITHIN WHICH WATERCRAFT MUST BE 
  1  5    REGISTERED AFTER A SALE OR TRANSFER AND WITHIN WHICH 
  1  6    WATERCRAFT MAY BE OPERATED WITHOUT AN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.

  1  8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  9 
  1 10    Section 1.  Section 462A.44, Code 2001, is amended to read
  1 11 as follows:
  1 12    462A.44  APPLICATION FOR TRANSFER.
  1 13    The purchaser or transferee shall, except as otherwise
  1 14 provided by this chapter, within five thirty days of the
  1 15 purchase or transfer file a new application form with the
  1 16 county recorder with a fee of one dollar and the appropriate
  1 17 writing fee, and a transfer of number shall be awarded in the
  1 18 same manner as provided for in an original registration.
  1 19    Sec. 2.  Section 462A.48, Code 2001, is amended to read as
  1 20 follows:
  1 21    462A.48  SALES BY DEALER.
  1 22    Upon the sale of a vessel by a manufacturer or dealer, the
  1 23 purchaser shall within five thirty days of the purchase make
  1 24 application for registration and the purchaser may operate the
  1 25 vessel without its individual identification number thereon
  1 26 for a period of not more than ten thirty-five days after the
  1 27 purchase date, provided that during such period the vessel
  1 28 shall have attached thereto, in accordance with the provisions
  1 29 of this chapter, a pasteboard card bearing the words
  1 30 "registration applied for" and the special certificate number
  1 31 of the dealer from whom the vessel was purchased together with
  1 32 the date of purchase plainly stamped or stenciled thereon.
