  1  1    Section 1.  Section 257.6, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 2001, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    a.  Resident pupils who were enrolled in public schools
  1  4 within the district in grades kindergarten prekindergarten
  1  5 through twelve and including prekindergarten pupils enrolled
  1  6 in special education programs.  
  1  7                           EXPLANATION
  1  8    This bill provides for the inclusion of pupils enrolled in
  1  9 public school prekindergarten programs within the actual
  1 10 enrollment of a school district for school finance formula
  1 11 purposes.  Currently, Code section 257.6 provides for the
  1 12 inclusion of kindergarten through grade 12 pupils, plus
  1 13 prekindergargen pupils enrolled in special education programs.
  1 14 This change would increase the enrollment count for a school
  1 15 district which is offering a prekindergarten program,
  1 16 generating additional funding and allowable growth each year
  1 17 for such programs.
