  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  249A.20A  NURSING FACILITIES –
  1  2 ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES.
  1  3    Nursing facilities as defined in section 135C.1 reimbursed
  1  4 under the medical assistance program shall utilize generally
  1  5 accepted accounting principles in maintaining the financial
  1  6 records of the facility.  The department of human services
  1  7 shall adopt rules to implement this requirement.  
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9    This bill requires nursing facilities reimbursed under the
  1 10 medical assistance program (Medicaid) to utilize generally
  1 11 accepted accounting principles in maintaining their financial
  1 12 records.  The bill directs the department of human services to
  1 13 adopt rules to implement this requirement.
