1 4 AUTHORIZING CERTAIN CRIMINAL HISTORY AND ABUSE RECORD AND
1 5 REGISTRY ACCESS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF INSPECTIONS AND APPEALS
1 6 FOR PURPOSES OF DATA VERIFICATION AND RECORD CHECKS OF
1 7 APPLICANTS FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT.

1 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 11 Section 1. Section 135C.33, subsection 6, Code 2001, is
1 12 amended to read as follows:
1 13 6. a. The department of inspections and appeals, in
1 14 conjunction with other departments and agencies of state
1 15 government involved with criminal history and abuse registry
1 16 information, shall establish a single contact repository for
1 17 facilities and other providers to have electronic access to
1 18 data to perform background checks for purposes of employment,
1 19 as required of the facilities and other providers under this
1 20 section.
1 21 b. The department may access the single contact repository
1 22 for any of the following purposes:
1 23 (1) To verify data transferred from the department's nurse
1 24 aide registry to the repository.
1 25 (2) To conduct record checks of applicants for employment
1 26 with the department.
1 27 Sec. 2. Section 235A.15, subsection 2, paragraph e, Code
1 28 2001, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph:
1 29 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (17) To the department of inspections
1 30 and appeals for purposes of record checks of applicants for
1 31 employment with the department of inspections and appeals.
1 32 Sec. 3. Section 235B.6, subsection 2, paragraph e, Code
1 33 2001, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph:
1 34 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (10) The department of inspections and
1 35 appeals for purposes of record checks of applicants for
2 1 employment with the department of inspections and appeals.
