  1  1    Section 1.  Section 507B.4, subsection 9, Code 2001, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  3    NEW PARAGRAPH.  o.  Delaying or refusing to pay a claim,
  1  4 which would otherwise be paid, solely on the basis that such
  1  5 claim resulted from domestic abuse as defined in section
  1  6 236.2.  
  1  7                           EXPLANATION
  1  8    This bill provides that it is an unfair claim settlement
  1  9 practice for a person engaged in the business of insurance to
  1 10 delay or refuse to pay a claim, which would otherwise be paid,
  1 11 solely on the basis that such claim resulted from domestic
  1 12 abuse.
