1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph j, Code
1 2 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 j. One unit of health education which shall include
1 4 personal health; food and nutrition; environmental health;
1 5 safety and survival skills; firearm safety; consumer health;
1 6 family life; human growth and development; substance abuse and
1 7 nonuse; emotional and social health; health resources; and
1 8 prevention and control of disease, including sexually
1 9 transmitted diseases and acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
1 10 EXPLANATION
1 11 This bill adds firearm safety to the subjects within the
1 12 health education unit that each school district and accredited
1 13 nonpublic school must offer in grades 9 through 12.
