1 1 Section 1. The department of economic development shall
1 2 establish and implement a former Iowan recruitment pilot
1 3 program. Under the program, the department shall provide
1 4 grants to local chambers of commerce which shall be used for
1 5 purposes of encouraging former Iowans attending local high
1 6 school class reunions to relocate in Iowa.
1 7 Sec. 2. FORMER IOWAN RECRUITMENT. There is appropriated
1 8 from the general fund of the state to the department of
1 9 economic development for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
1 10 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, the following amount, or so
1 11 much thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
1 12 designated:
1 13 For the former Iowan recruitment pilot program as
1 14 established by the department pursuant to this Act, including
1 15 salaries, support, maintenance, and miscellaneous purposes:

1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 This bill provides for the establishment of a former Iowan
1 19 recruitment pilot program. The bill provides that the
1 20 department shall provide grants to local chambers of commerce
1 21 which shall be used for purposes of encouraging former Iowans
1 22 attending local high school class reunions to relocate in
1 23 Iowa. The bill appropriates $200,000 from the general fund to
1 24 the department of economic development for the fiscal year
1 25 beginning July 1, 2001, for purposes of the pilot program.
