1 1 Section 1. Section 272C.2A, Code 2001, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 272C.2A CONTINUING EDUCATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS –
1 4 BARBERING AND COSMETOLOGY ARTS AND SCIENCES.
1 5 1. The board of barber examiners and the board of
1 6 cosmetology arts and sciences examiners, created pursuant to
1 7 chapter 147, shall each require, as a condition of license
1 8 renewal, a minimum of six hours of continuing education in the
1 9 two years immediately prior to a licensee's license renewal.
1 10 The board of cosmetology arts and sciences examiners may
1 11 notify cosmetology arts and sciences licensees on a quarterly
1 12 basis regarding continuing education opportunities.
1 13 2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, a licensed barber shall
1 14 be exempt from additional continuing education requirements as
1 15 a condition of license renewal provided that the licensee has
1 16 continuously held a license to practice barbering and been
1 17 engaged on a full-time basis in the practice of barbering
1 18 during the 20-year period immediately preceding the licensure
1 19 renewal date.
1 20 EXPLANATION
1 21 This bill provides for an exemption from continuing
1 22 education requirements as a condition of license renewal for
1 23 barbers under specified circumstances. The bill provides that
1 24 a barber shall be exempt from continuing education
1 25 requirements if the barber has continuously held a license to
1 26 practice barbering and been engaged on a full-time basis in
1 27 the practice of barbering during the 20-year period
1 28 immediately preceding the licensure renewal date.
