  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.189, subsection 2, paragraph c,
  1  2 Code 2001, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    c.  The department shall advise an applicant that the
  1  4 assign an applicant for a driver's license may request a
  1  5 distinguishing driver's license number other than a the
  1  6 applicant's social security number, as the driver's license
  1  7 number unless the applicant requests that the applicant's
  1  8 social security number be so assigned.  
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill requires the state department of transportation
  1 11 to assign an applicant for a driver's license a distinguishing
  1 12 driver's license number other than the applicant's social
  1 13 security number, unless the applicant requests that the
  1 14 applicant's social security number be so assigned.
