1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 6205SS BY LUNDBY)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution requesting the legislative
1 5 council to authorize the personal privacy issues
1 6 study committee to continue deliberations during
1 7 the 2002 legislative interim.
1 8 WHEREAS, the personal privacy issues study
1 9 committee created for the 2000 interim was charged to
1 10 review the privacy protections in Iowa law for Iowa
1 11 consumers with the primary focus of the review to be
1 12 on the area of confidentiality of financial records
1 13 and to also include a focus on medical records with an
1 14 emphasis on protections for the potential abuse in the
1 15 gathering and dissemination of genetic testing
1 16 information; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the study committee was also authorized to
1 18 explore other areas regarding privacy records as
1 19 deemed fit by the study committee membership; and
1 20 WHEREAS, the study committee held an initial two-
1 21 day meeting, and reviewed materials and testimony
1 22 regarding internet privacy and security, IowAccess and
1 23 privacy concerns, worker privacy issues, motor vehicle
1 24 driver's license information, educational records,
1 25 public records, financial records, and medical
1 26 records; and
1 27 WHEREAS, because there are other issues and
1 28 additional information regarding the items initially
1 29 reviewed that committee members believe should be
1 30 considered and the legislative council agreed to
2 1 reauthorization for the 2001 legislative interim but
2 2 the study committee was unable to meet; NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
2 4 SENATE CONCURRING, That the legislative council is
2 5 requested to authorize the personal privacy issues
2 6 study committee to continue deliberations during the
2 7 2002 legislative interim and to make a report to the
2 8 Eightieth General Assembly, 2003 Session, for its
2 9 consideration.
