  1  1    Amend House File 725 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 10, by inserting after line 9, the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  INTERIM COMMITTEE – WATER QUALITY
  1  5 STUDY.  The legislative council is requested to create
  1  6 a water quality interim study committee to study the
  1  7 quality of this state's surface and subsurface waters,
  1  8 including drinking water sources.  The interim
  1  9 committee shall consider all major sources of
  1 10 contamination, current effluent and treatment
  1 11 standards, and practices or systems designed to
  1 12 prevent or reduce contamination.  The department of
  1 13 agriculture and land stewardship and the department of
  1 14 natural resources shall cooperate with the interim
  1 15 study committee.  If created, the interim study
  1 16 committee, as directed by the legislative council,
  1 17 shall report to the general assembly regarding any
  1 18 recommendations required to improve water quality in
  1 19 this state, including legislative measures to reduce
  1 20 contamination that may pose a risk to human health."
