  1  1    Amend Senate File 428, as passed by the Senate, as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    #1.  By striking everything after the enacting
  1  4 clause and inserting the following:
  1  5    "Section 1.  STATEWIDE CENTRAL INTAKE UNIT FOR
  1  6 RECEIVING REPORTS OF CHILD ABUSE.
  1  7    1.  The legislative council is requested to
  1  8 establish a study committee for the 2001 interim to
  1  9 consider creation of a statewide central intake unit
  1 10 by the department of human services for receiving
  1 11 child abuse reports.
  1 12    2.  The study committee should include members of
  1 13 the general assembly, individuals knowledgeable about
  1 14 child protection and prevention of child abuse, and
  1 15 other interested persons, including but not limited to
  1 16 representatives of the department of human services,
  1 17 the juvenile court and juvenile court services, the
  1 18 department of justice, the citizens' aide, county
  1 19 attorneys, guardians ad litem, child advocates, and
  1 20 critics of the child protection system.
  1 21    3.  The study committee should be directed to
  1 22 utilize national experts, to address other issues
  1 23 associated with the state's child protection system,
  1 24 and to report its findings and recommendations for
  1 25 consideration by the governor and the Seventy-ninth
  1 26 General Assembly, 2002 Regular Session."
  1 27    #2.  Title page, by striking line 1 and inserting
  1 28 the following:  "An Act requesting a study to consider
  1 29 creation of a".
