1 3 ENVIRONMENT RESOLUTION
1 4 BY CHAIRPERSON BARTZ)
1 5 A Senate Resolution requesting an interim study
1 6 of issues relating to increasing the demand and
1 7 availability of renewable reformulated fuel.
1 8 WHEREAS, the state has a vital interest in protecting the
1 9 public health; and
1 10 WHEREAS, it is critical to the prosperity of this state
1 11 that the state capture the greatest economic benefit from
1 12 opportunities created by the use of value-added products
1 13 derived from abundant resources of this state; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the increased availability of renewable
1 15 reformulated fuel will promote the public health and
1 16 strengthen the state's economy; NOW THEREFORE,
1 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the legislative council
1 18 is requested to create a legislative study committee to meet
1 19 during the 2000 interim in order to study issues related to
1 20 renewable reformulated gasoline; and
1 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the study committee consider
1 22 the availability of motor vehicle fuel with levels of octane
1 23 customarily used to combine with alcohol in order to produce
1 24 renewable reformulated gasoline; and
1 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the interim study committee
1 26 consider methods in order to promote and educate consumers
1 27 purchasing gasoline regarding the benefits of using renewable
1 28 reformulated gasoline. The interim study committee may
1 29 consider the use of information designed to increase consumer
1 30 awareness of renewable reformulated gasoline at the point of
1 31 sale; and
1 32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That associations representing
1 33 motor vehicle fuel dealers and farmers including corn growers,
1 34 cooperate with the interim study committee in order to carry
1 35 out the provisions of this resolution; and
2 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That interim study committee is
2 2 directed to submit its findings, together with any
2 3 recommendations, in a report to the general assembly which
2 4 convenes in January 2001.
