1 1 Section 1. Section 142C.15, subsection 4, paragraph a,
1 2 Code 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 a. Not more than twenty percent of the moneys in the fund
1 4 annually may be expended in the form of grants to state
1 5 agencies or to nonprofit legal entities with an interest in
1 6 anatomical gift public awareness and transplantation to
1 7 conduct public awareness projects or to develop and maintain
1 8 an organ donor registry. Grants shall be made based upon the
1 9 submission of a grant application by an agency or entity to
1 10 conduct a public awareness project or to develop and maintain
1 11 an organ donor registry.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that up to 20 percent of the moneys in
1 14 the anatomical gift public awareness and transplantation fund
1 15 may be expended in the form of grants to state agencies or
1 16 nonprofit legal entities to not only conduct public awareness
1 17 projects, as is currently allowed, but also to develop and
1 18 maintain an organ donor registry.
