1 2 BY DVORSKY, BOLKCOM, HORN, HAMMOND, BLACK,
1 3 FINK, McKIBBEN, HANSEN, GRONSTAL, DEARDEN,
1 4 SHEARER, JUDGE, DELUHERY, SOUKUP, HARPER,
1 5 SZYMONIAK, FRAISE, REDFERN, and BARTZ
1 6 A Senate Resolution honoring University of Iowa
1 7 Basketball Coach Tom Davis.
1 8 WHEREAS, University of Iowa Basketball Coach Tom
1 9 Davis has posted a spectacular record of 249-130 at
1 10 the University of Iowa, with his teams winning more
1 11 games in a shorter period of time than teams under any
1 12 other previous Hawkeye Coach; and
1 13 WHEREAS, Coach Davis' hard work and dedication to
1 14 his teams and the fans carried on a rich basketball
1 15 tradition at the University of Iowa; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Coach Davis' up-tempo style of play and
1 17 full-court press coupled with liberal substitutions
1 18 provided an exciting brand of basketball for Hawkeye
1 19 fans; and
1 20 WHEREAS, Coach Davis has led the Hawkeyes to a 32-
1 21 20 record in the Big Ten Conference over the past
1 22 three seasons, second best in the Big Ten, and his
1 23 Iowa teams have earned eight NCAA Tournament bids and
1 24 two NIT bids, and his teams have won at least 20 games
1 25 in nine out of 12 seasons; and
1 26 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Men's Basketball
1 27 Team advanced to the sweet sixteen of the NCAA
1 28 tournament in Coach Tom Davis' final year as head
1 29 coach; and
1 30 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa men's basketball
2 1 program graduation rate continues to rank near the top
2 2 of the Big Ten Conference; and
2 3 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Men's Basketball
2 4 Team was ranked second in the Big Ten Conference this
2 5 year in home game attendance; NOW THEREFORE,
2 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That Coach Tom Davis
2 7 be congratulated for the success and recognition he
2 8 helped bring to the University of Iowa and the Hawkeye
2 9 basketball program both on and off the field, and for
2 10 his outstanding leadership, inspiration, and coaching
2 11 ability exhibited throughout his career at the
2 12 University of Iowa; and
2 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
2 14 official copy of this resolution be prepared for
2 15 presentation to Coach Tom Davis.
