1 1 Section 1. Section 456A.13, Code 1999, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. If at least one officer of the
1 4 department assigned to manage or attend a state park is not
1 5 appointed as a full-time officer to enforce the laws of the
1 6 state and rules of the department, the director shall
1 7 reimburse the sheriff of the county in which the state park is
1 8 located an amount equal to the annual, entry-level salary plus
1 9 benefits of a deputy sheriff of that county to provide the law
1 10 enforcement services. There is appropriated annually during
1 11 the month of July from the state conservation fund created in
1 12 section 456A.17 a sum sufficient to provide for reimbursement
1 13 under this paragraph for state park law enforcement services
1 14 provided by counties during the preceding fiscal year ending
1 15 June 30.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides that if the director does not appoint at
1 18 least one full-time officer to provide law enforcement
1 19 services in a state park, the department shall reimburse the
1 20 county sheriff of the county in which the state park is
1 21 located an amount equal to the annual, entry-level salary plus
1 22 benefits of a deputy sheriff of that county for providing the
1 23 law enforcement services during the preceding fiscal year
1 24 ending June 30. The reimbursement shall be paid during the
1 25 month of July from an annual appropriation from the state
1 26 conservation fund.
