1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 708.7A RESTRICTIONS ON LASER
1 2 POINTERS.
1 3 1. A person commits laser pointer harassment when, with
1 4 the intent to intimidate, annoy, harass, or alarm another
1 5 person, the person points or aims a laser pointer toward
1 6 another person.
1 7 2. For purposes of this section, "laser pointer" means any
1 8 pointing or siting device, a device that converts incident
1 9 electromagnetic radiation of mixed frequencies to one or more
1 10 discrete frequencies of highly amplified and coherent visible
1 11 radiation, or any other device that emits a light similar in
1 12 effect or appearance to that of a laser.
1 13 3. A person who violates this section commits a simple
1 14 misdemeanor.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill creates the new crime of laser pointer
1 17 harassment. A person who points or aims a laser pointer at
1 18 another person with the intent to intimidate, annoy, harass,
1 19 or alarm that person, commits a simple misdemeanor.
1 20 A simple misdemeanor is punishable by confinement for no
1 21 more than 30 days or a fine of at least $50 but not more than
1 22 $500 or by both.
