1 1 Section 1. Section 542B.14, subsection 1, paragraph a,
1 2 subparagraph (4), Code 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 (4) For applicants who obtained an associate of science
1 4 degree or a more advanced degree or completed at least two
1 5 years of postsecondary study between July 1, 1983, and June
1 6 30, 1988, in lieu of compliance with subparagraph (1), the
1 7 board shall only require compliance with the provisions of
1 8 subparagraph (3) with regard to areas of study and practical
1 9 experience. Applicants qualifying under this subparagraph
1 10 must meet the requirements of paragraph "b", by June 30, 2001.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill relates to the educational requirements for
1 13 licensure of professional engineers.
1 14 Code section 542B.14, relating to the general requirements
1 15 for engineer licensure, is amended. The bill provides an
1 16 additional means of meeting the educational requirement of
1 17 graduation from a course in engineering of at least four years
1 18 in an approved school.
1 19 Current law provides that applicants who obtained an
1 20 associate of science degree or a more advanced degree between
1 21 July 1, 1983, and June 30, 1988, are considered to have met
1 22 the educational requirement if other study and practical
1 23 experience requirements are met. Under the bill, applicants
1 24 who completed at least two years of postsecondary study during
1 25 that specified time period, along with the other study and
1 26 practical experience requirements, would also be considered to
1 27 have met the educational requirement.
