1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 359.16A APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES
1 2 AND CLERKS.
1 3 If the county commissioner of elections receives no
1 4 certificates of nomination for the office of township trustee
1 5 or township clerk to be placed on the general election ballot,
1 6 the board of supervisors of the county in which the township
1 7 is located may direct the county commissioner of elections to
1 8 remove the township offices without nominees from the general
1 9 election ballot. If the township offices are removed from the
1 10 general election ballot, the board of supervisors shall
1 11 appoint a successor to the affected township office for a two-
1 12 year term.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides that if no one is nominated to fill an
1 15 office of township trustee or township clerk at a primary
1 16 election and no one is nominated by convention or petition to
1 17 be placed on the general election ballot, the board of
1 18 supervisors may direct the county commissioner of elections to
1 19 remove the affected township office from the general election
1 20 ballot. If the township office is removed from the general
1 21 election ballot, the board of supervisors shall appoint a
1 22 person to the affected office for a two-year term.
