PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.189, subsection 2, paragraphs b and 1 2 c, Code 1999, are amended to read as follows: 1 3 b. A commercial driver's license shall include the 1 4 licensee's address as required under federal regulationsand1 5the licensee's social security number, and the words 1 6 "commercial driver's license" or "CDL" shall appear 1 7 prominently on the face of the license. If the applicant is a 1 8 nonresident, the license must conspicuously display the word 1 9 "nonresident". 1 10 c. The department shall advise an applicant that the 1 11 applicant for a driver's licenseother than a commercial1 12driver's licensemay request a number other than a social 1 13 security number as the driver's license number. 1 14 EXPLANATION 1 15 This bill eliminates the requirement that the social 1 16 security number of a commercial driver's licensee appear on 1 17 the face of the commercial driver's license. A person 1 18 applying for a commercial driver's license must still provide 1 19 the person's social security number on the application, as 1 20 required by federal regulations. The bill gives commercial 1 21 driver's licensees the option currently available to other 1 22 driver's licensees of requesting a number other than the 1 23 driver's social security number as the driver's license 1 24 number. 1 25 LSB 1370SS 78 1 26 nh/gg/8
