1 1 Section 1. Section 147.74, subsection 11, Code 1999, is
1 2 amended by striking the subsection and inserting in lieu
1 3 thereof the following:
1 4 11. A speech pathologist with a doctoral degree may use
1 5 the suffix "Ph.D", or the prefix "Doctor" or "Dr." and add
1 6 after the person's name the words "speech pathologist". An
1 7 audiologist with a doctoral degree may use the suffix "Ph.D"
1 8 or "Au.D", or the prefix "Doctor" or "Dr." and add after the
1 9 person's name the word "audiologist". The suffix "Au.D" shall
1 10 refer exclusively to a doctoral degree obtained through a
1 11 regular course of academic study beyond the bachelor's and
1 12 master's levels from an accredited school, college, or
1 13 university leading to the designation of "Doctor of
1 14 Audiology".
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill provides that the suffix "Au.D" may be used as a
1 17 professional designation by an audiologist, in addition to the
1 18 previously available suffix "Ph.D", provided that the degree
1 19 leading to utilization of the suffix "Au.D" was obtained
1 20 through a regular course of academic study beyond the
1 21 bachelor's and master's levels from an accredited school,
1 22 college, or university leading to the designation of "Doctor
1 23 of Audiology".
