PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.20B, subsection 1, unnumbered 1 2 paragraph 1, Code 1999, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 Notwithstanding chapter 321A, which requires certain 1 4 persons to maintain proof of financial responsibility, a 1 5 person shall not drive a motor vehicleon the highways ofin 1 6 this state unless financial liability coverage, as defined in 1 7 section 321.1, subsection 24A, is in effect for the motor 1 8 vehicle and unless the driver has in the motor vehicle the 1 9 proof of financial liability coverage card issued for the 1 10 motor vehicle, or if the vehicle is registered in another 1 11 state, other evidence that financial liability coverage is in 1 12 effect for the motor vehicle. This subsection applies 1 13 wherever the motor vehicle may be driven, including, but not 1 14 limited to, on the highways of this state or on public or 1 15 private property. 1 16 EXPLANATION 1 17 This bill strikes language under the state's mandatory 1 18 motor vehicle proof of financial responsibility law that 1 19 limits that law's application to driving a motor vehicle on 1 20 the highways of this state. The bill provides that such proof 1 21 of financial responsibility is required whether the motor 1 22 vehicle is driven on the highways of the state or on public or 1 23 private property. 1 24 LSB 1177SS 78 1 25 mj/cf/24
