1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___

1 3 A Concurrent Resolution to request a United States
1 4 Corps of Engineers' study of the lower Des Moines
1 5 River.
1 6 WHEREAS, the lower Des Moines River is one of the
1 7 most important natural resources in southeast Iowa;
1 8 and
1 9 WHEREAS, the lower Des Moines River is impacted by
1 10 the reservoir at Lake Red Rock; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the United States Corps of Engineers is
1 12 responsible for the management of the reservoir; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the last management plan was put into
1 14 effect for the reservoir at Lake Red Rock in 1993; and
1 15 WHEREAS, the management plan has had a tremendous
1 16 impact on the lower Des Moines River, concerning both
1 17 water quality and recreation; and
1 18 WHEREAS, there seems to be an adverse impact on the
1 19 environment due to the present management plan of Red
1 20 Rock Reservoir; NOW THEREFORE,
1 21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 22 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
1 23 Assembly requests the United States Corps of Engineers
1 24 to conduct a new study regarding the management of the
1 25 lower Des Moines River; and
1 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
1 27 Concurrent Resolution be sent by the Secretary of the
1 28 Senate to the members of Iowa's delegation, to the
1 29 President of the United States, to the President of
1 30 the United States Senate, and to the Speaker of the
2 1 United States House of Representatives.
