1 3 #1. Page 17, by inserting before line 18 the
1 4 following:
1 5 "Sec. 200. Section 427.1, Code Supplement 1999, is
1 6 amended by adding the following new subsection:
1 7 NEW SUBSECTION. 32. ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE
1 8 PRESERVATION. The increase in assessed value added to
1 9 a one-room schoolhouse as a result of improvements
1 10 made to the structure for purposes of preserving the
1 11 integrity of the internal and external features of the
1 12 structure as a one-room schoolhouse is exempt from
1 13 taxation. The exemption shall apply to the assessment
1 14 year beginning after the completion of the
1 15 improvements to preserve the structure as a one-room
1 16 schoolhouse.
1 17 Application for this exemption shall be filed with
1 18 the assessing authority not later than February 1 of
1 19 the first year for which the exemption is requested,
1 20 on forms provided by the department of revenue and
1 21 finance. The application shall describe and locate
1 22 the specific one-room schoolhouse for which the added
1 23 value is requested to be exempt.
1 24 Once the exemption is granted, the exemption shall
1 25 continue to be granted for subsequent assessment years
1 26 without further filing of applications as long as the
1 27 structure is not used for dwelling purposes and the
1 28 structure is preserved as a one-room schoolhouse. The
1 29 taxpayer shall notify the assessing authority when the
1 30 structure ceases to be eligible. The exemption in
1 31 this subsection applies even though the one-room
1 32 schoolhouse is no longer used for instructional
1 33 purposes.
1 34 Sec. . Section 25B.7 does not apply to the
1 35 exemption granted pursuant to section 200 of this
1 36 Act."
1 37 #2. Title page, line 9, by inserting after the
1 38 word "purposes" the following: "and a property tax
1 39 exemption for increasing the value of one-room
1 40 schoolhouses as a result of the rehabilitation of the
1 41 one-room schoolhouses,".
1 42 #3. By renumbering as necessary.
