  1  1    Amend Senate File 436 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 1, line 2, by striking the word "live"
  1  3 and inserting the following:  "a live animal
  1  4 classified as".
  1  5    #2.  Page 3, by inserting before line 15, the
  1  6 following:
  1  7    "Sec. 100.  ANALYSIS BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.
  1  8    1.  The office of attorney general, in cooperation
  1  9 with the department of agriculture and land
  1 10 stewardship, shall conduct an analysis to determine
  1 11 the extent to which packers discriminate in prices
  1 12 paid or offered to be paid to sellers of livestock,
  1 13 including livestock purchased pursuant to contract or
  1 14 on a cash market basis.  As part of its analysis, the
  1 15 office of attorney general shall determine the extent
  1 16 to which discrimination is based on the number of
  1 17 livestock that a livestock seller delivers to a packer
  1 18 and the regularity or frequency that a livestock
  1 19 seller delivers livestock to a packer.
  1 20    2.  In conducting its analysis, the office of
  1 21 attorney general may examine the records of a packer,
  1 22 including its books, accounts, papers, contracts, and
  1 23 documents.  The office of attorney general may apply
  1 24 to district court for the issuance of a subpoena
  1 25 necessary to enforce this section.
  1 26    3.  The office of attorney general shall report the
  1 27 results of its analysis to the general assembly not
  1 28 later than January 10, 2000.
  1 29    Sec.    .  EFFECTIVE DATE.  Section 100 of this
  1 30 Act, being deemed of immediate importance, takes
  1 31 effect upon enactment."
