  1  1    Section 1.  Section 147.14, subsection 3, Code 1999, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    3.  For nursing examiners, four registered nurses, one two
  1  4 of whom shall be actively engaged in practice, three two of
  1  5 whom shall be nurse educators from nursing education programs;
  1  6 of these, one in higher education, one in diploma education,
  1  7 and one in area community and vocational-technical registered
  1  8 nurse education; one licensed practical nurse actively engaged
  1  9 in practice; and two members not registered nurses or licensed
  1 10 practical nurses and who shall represent the general public.
  1 11 The representatives of the general public shall not be members
  1 12 of health care delivery systems.  A majority of the members of
  1 13 the board constitutes a quorum.  
  1 14                           EXPLANATION 
  1 15    This bill provides for a change in the composition of the
  1 16 board of nursing examiners.  Currently, of the four registered
  1 17 nurses included in the composition of the board, one was
  1 18 required to be actively engaged in practice, and three were
  1 19 required to be nurse educators, from nursing education
  1 20 programs.  The nursing education programs were required to
  1 21 relate to higher education, diploma education, and area
  1 22 community and vocational-technical registered nurse education,
  1 23 respectively.  The bill retains the four registered nurses
  1 24 requirement, but provides that two registered nurses shall be
  1 25 actively engaged in practice, and two shall be nurse educators
  1 26 from nursing education programs.  The bill additionally
  1 27 deletes the requirement that one of the nurse educators be
  1 28 affiliated with a diploma education program.
