1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 249A.18A DIRECT SERVICES –
1 2 SCHOOL NURSES – REIMBURSEMENT.
1 3 The department of human services, in consultation with the
1 4 Iowa department of public health and the department of
1 5 education, shall utilize medical assistance program funding to
1 6 implement the screening, diagnosis and treatment components
1 7 through the elementary and secondary school systems. The
1 8 department may enter contracts to utilize school nurses in
1 9 implementing this section.
1 10 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION. There is appropriated from the
1 11 tobacco settlement fund created in section 12.65, to the
1 12 department of human services for the fiscal year beginning
1 13 July 1, 2000, and ending June 30, 2001, an amount necessary to
1 14 provide state matching funds for implementation of the
1 15 screening, diagnosis and treatment components of the medical
1 16 assistance program as provided pursuant to section 249A.18A.
1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 This bill requires the department of human services, in
1 19 consultation with the Iowa department of public health and the
1 20 department of education, to implement the screening, diagnosis
1 21 and treatment components of the medical assistance program,
1 22 through the school systems. The bill provides for an
1 23 appropriation to the department of human services from the
1 24 tobacco settlement fund, in an amount necessary, for fiscal
1 25 year 2000-2001 to provide state matching funds for payment of
1 26 implementation of these services.
