1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 255.21A PROVISION OF
1 2 PHARMACEUTICALS OUTSIDE HOSPITAL.
1 3 The university hospital authorities shall establish
1 4 guidelines to enable prescription and nonprescription
1 5 pharmaceuticals to be delivered to remote or alternative
1 6 locations, when medically appropriate, to enable a patient to
1 7 receive pharmaceuticals without traveling to the university
1 8 hospitals. The guidelines shall provide that the option
1 9 provided is subject to the discretion of the university
1 10 hospital authority in charge of the case. The guidelines
1 11 shall also provide for tracking and supervision of any
1 12 pharmaceutical delivered under this section.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill directs the university of Iowa hospital
1 15 authorities to establish guidelines to deliver prescription
1 16 and nonprescription pharmaceuticals to patients eligible under
1 17 the indigent patient care program (state papers), in remote or
1 18 alternative locations, when medically appropriate, so that the
1 19 patient is not required to travel to the university hospital.
1 20 The option would be utilized at the discretion of the hospital
1 21 authority in charge of the case and provision would be made
1 22 for tracking and supervision of any pharmaceutical delivered.
