1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 56.15B PROHIBITED CONTRIBUTIONS.
1 2 1. A person who owns, operates, or manages a facility
1 3 licensed pursuant to chapter 99D or 99F, a person who owns,
1 4 operates, or manages a facility licensed under similar law in
1 5 another jurisdiction, or a person who owns, operates, or
1 6 manages a facility licensed pursuant to a federal gambling
1 7 permit shall not contribute to, act as an agent or
1 8 intermediary for contributions to, or arrange for the making
1 9 of monetary or in-kind contributions to any candidate for
1 10 office in this state, or the candidate's committee.
1 11 2. A candidate for office in this state or a candidate's
1 12 committee shall not accept or solicit a contribution from any
1 13 person who owns, operates, or manages a facility licensed
1 14 pursuant to chapter 99D or 99F, a person who owns, operates,
1 15 or manages a facility licensed under similar law in another
1 16 jurisdiction, or a person who owns, operates, or manages a
1 17 facility licensed pursuant to a federal gambling permit.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill creates a new section in Code chapter 56 to
1 20 prohibit the giving of political contributions by certain
1 21 persons in the gaming industry to, and receipt by, candidates
1 22 for office in Iowa.
1 23 Violations of new Code section 56.15B are punishable as
1 24 serious misdemeanors pursuant to Code section 56.16. A
1 25 serious misdemeanor is punishable by confinement for no more
1 26 than one year and a fine of at least $250 but not more than
1 27 $1,500.
