1 1 Section 1. REQUEST FOR WAIVER – FAMILY COVERAGE. The
1 2 department of human services shall request a waiver from the
1 3 health care financing administration of the United States
1 4 department of health and human services to provide for the
1 5 purchase of family coverage under a group health plan or
1 6 health insurance coverage under the state children's health
1 7 insurance program, healthy and well kids in Iowa, created in
1 8 chapter 514I.
1 9 If the waiver is approved, the department shall include the
1 10 purchase of family coverage in the department's budget request
1 11 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001, and shall make
1 12 recommendations to the general assembly on or before December
1 13 1, 2000, regarding any statutory changes necessitated by the
1 14 approval of the waiver.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill directs the department of human services to
1 17 request a waiver from the federal health care financing
1 18 administration to provide for the purchase of family coverage
1 19 under the state children's health insurance program. If the
1 20 waiver is approved, the department is directed to include the
1 21 purchase of family coverage in the department's budget request
1 22 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001, and to make
1 23 recommendations to the general assembly by December 1, 2000,
1 24 for necessary statutory changes.
