1 1 Section 1. ALIMONY STUDY REQUEST. The supreme court is
1 2 requested to coordinate a study of the alimony laws and
1 3 application of these laws in Iowa. The goals of the study
1 4 shall include a determination of whether the alimony laws are
1 5 applied in a fair and equitable manner and a determination of
1 6 whether application of the alimony laws results in maintenance
1 7 of a reasonable lifestyle of both parties in relation to the
1 8 predissolution lifestyle without being unduly burdensome to
1 9 either party. If a study is completed, the supreme court is
1 10 requested to submit a report of the findings of the study,
1 11 including any recommendations for improving the law or the
1 12 application of the law, to the general assembly on or before
1 13 December 15, 1999.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill requests the supreme court to coordinate a study
1 16 of the alimony laws and application of these laws in Iowa.
1 17 The goals of the study include a determination of whether the
1 18 alimony laws are applied in a fair and equitable manner, and a
1 19 determination of whether application of the alimony laws
1 20 results in maintenance of a reasonable lifestyle of both
1 21 parties and is not unduly burdensome to either party. If a
1 22 study is completed, the supreme court is requested to submit a
1 23 report of the study's findings and recommendations to the
1 24 general assembly on or before December 15, 1999.
