  1  1    Section 1.  REVIEW OF AUTISM SERVICES AND SUPPORT –
  1  2 REPORT.  The state-county management committee shall review
  1  3 the availability of services and other support for children
  1  4 and adults with autism and their families.  The committee
  1  5 shall consider associated issues involving equity, any
  1  6 prerequisites for families to access service funding such as
  1  7 having to undergo court proceedings for removal of custody or
  1  8 to obtain treatment for a secondary diagnosis for which
  1  9 funding is available, and the geographic availability of
  1 10 services for persons with expensive or difficult-to-treat
  1 11 conditions.  The committee may consult with the mental health
  1 12 and developmental disabilities commission, persons with autism
  1 13 and their families, and service providers and advocates in
  1 14 performing the review.  A report of the review containing
  1 15 findings and recommendations shall be submitted to the
  1 16 governor and the general assembly in January 2000.  
  1 17                           EXPLANATION
  1 18    This bill directs the state-county management committee for
  1 19 mental health, and mental retardation and other developmental
  1 20 disability services to perform a service availability review
  1 21 concerning persons with autism.
  1 22    The committee is to report to the governor and general
  1 23 assembly with findings and recommendations in January 2000.
