PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 306C.18, subsection 4, Code 1999, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 4. The fee for both types of permitsfor calendar years1 41997 and 1998shall beone hundredfifty dollars for the 1 5 initial fee andfifteenten dollars for each annual renewal 1 6for signs up to three hundred seventy-five square feet in1 7area, twenty-five dollars for each annual renewal for signs at1 8least three hundred seventy-six, but not more than nine1 9hundred ninety-nine, square feet in area, and fifty dollars1 10for each annual renewal for signs one thousand square feet or1 11more in area.Beginning January 1, 1999, fees shall be as1 12determined by rule by the department.The fees collected for 1 13 the above permits shall be credited to a special account 1 14 entitled the "highway beautification fund" and all salaries 1 15 and expenses incurred in administering this chapter shall be 1 16 paid from this fund or from specific appropriations for this 1 17 purpose, except that surveillance of, and removal of, 1 18 advertising devices performed by regular maintenance personnel 1 19 are not to be charged against the account. 1 20 EXPLANATION 1 21 This bill amends Code section 306C.18, relating to permits 1 22 issued by the state department of transportation for certain 1 23 advertising signs, to provide that the initial fee for a 1 24 permit is $50, with an annual renewal fee of $10. Currently, 1 25 Code section 306C.18 provides that the initial permit fee for 1 26 the calendar years 1997 and 1998 is $100, with annual renewal 1 27 fees ranging from $15 to $50, based on the size of the sign. 1 28 That section also currently provides that, beginning January 1 29 1, 1999, the fees are to be determined by the department. 1 30 LSB 1997HH 78 1 31 nh/sc/14
