  1  1    Section 1.  Section 80.18, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code
  1  2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    It shall be the duty of the The commissioner of public
  1  4 safety to shall provide for the members of the department when
  1  5 on duty, suitable uniforms, subsistence, arms, equipment,
  1  6 quarters, and other necessary supplies, and also the expense
  1  7 and means of travel and boarding the members of the
  1  8 department, according to rules made by the commissioner, as
  1  9 may be provided by appropriation.  The commissioner shall
  1 10 provide a cellular telephone to each member of the Iowa state
  1 11 patrol to be carried in the member's patrol vehicle and used
  1 12 while the member is on patrol for purposes related to the
  1 13 duties of such member.  
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill requires the commissioner of public safety to
  1 16 provide a cellular telephone to each member of the Iowa state
  1 17 patrol to be used by such member while on patrol for purposes
  1 18 related to the duties of the patrol.
