  1  4 RELATING TO CRIME VICTIM RIGHTS.

  1  6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  7 
  1  8    Section 1.  Section 915.84, subsection 1, Code 1999, is
  1  9 amended to read as follows:
  1 10    1.  To claim compensation under the crime victim
  1 11 compensation program, a person shall apply in writing on a
  1 12 form prescribed by the department and file the application
  1 13 with the department within two years after the date of the
  1 14 crime, the discovery of the crime, or the date of death of the
  1 15 victim.  The department may waive the time limitation if good
  1 16 cause is shown.
  1 17    Sec. 2.  Section 915.86, subsection 1, Code 1999, is
  1 18 amended to read as follows:
  1 19    1.  Reasonable charges incurred for medical care not to
  1 20 exceed ten fifteen thousand five hundred dollars.  Reasonable
  1 21 charges incurred for mental health care not to exceed three
  1 22 thousand dollars which includes services provided by a
  1 23 psychologist licensed under chapter 154B, a person holding at
  1 24 least a master's degree in social work or counseling and
  1 25 guidance, or a victim counselor as defined in section 915.20A.
  1 26    Sec. 3.  Section 915.100, subsection 2, paragraph c, Code
  1 27 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1 28    c.  In cases where the act committed by an offender causes
  1 29 the death of another person, in addition to the amount ordered
  1 30 for payment of the victim's pecuniary damages, the court shall
  1 31 also order the offender to pay at least one hundred fifty
  1 32 thousand dollars in restitution to the victim's estate,
  1 33 pursuant to the provisions of section 910.3B.
