1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___
1 2 BY ALONS
1 3 A House Concurrent Resolution relating to reform in the
1 4 United States Department of Justice.
1 5 WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice
1 6 has spent years and millions of dollars pursuing
1 7 antitrust claims against Microsoft Corporation; and
1 8 WHEREAS, the regulation of the technology industry
1 9 through the litigation process intrudes upon the
1 10 natural competitive business process; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the priorities of the current
1 12 administrators of the United States Department of
1 13 Justice do not comport with the real, daily interests
1 14 and concerns of Americans to be protected against
1 15 crime; NOW THEREFORE,
1 16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 17 SENATE CONCURRING, That the President of the United
1 18 States elected in November 2000 be called upon to
1 19 change the direction of the United States Department
1 20 of Justice and to set priorities in its administration
1 21 that relate to protection of Americans from crime; and
1 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the United States
1 23 Department of Justice be directed by the President to
1 24 end the antitrust litigation against Microsoft
1 25 Corporation, to emphasize the priority of the war on
1 26 drug use in this country by pursuing international
1 27 drug dealers, to focus on enforcing prohibitions and
1 28 limits on technology exports and transfers to nations
1 29 that support terrorism, and to enforce campaign
1 30 finance laws designed to prohibit foreign influence in
2 1 United States elections; and
2 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon passage, and
2 3 after the presidential election in November 2000, the
2 4 Chief Clerk of the House transmit copies of this
2 5 Resolution to the President of the United States and
2 6 to each member of Iowa's Congressional delegation.
