1 1 Section 1. Section 514E.5, Code Supplement 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 15. A device, chemical, or surgical
1 4 procedure that causes an abortion, unless medically necessary
1 5 to save the life of the patient.
1 6 EXPLANATION
1 7 This bill amends Code chapter 514E, the Iowa comprehensive
1 8 health insurance association chapter, by excluding from
1 9 coverage, costs associated with a device, chemical, or
1 10 surgical procedure that causes an abortion, unless medically
1 11 necessary to save the life of the patient. The Iowa
1 12 comprehensive health insurance association provides policies
1 13 of health insurance coverage only to persons who have been
1 14 rejected for similar health insurance coverage or only offered
1 15 health insurance coverage at a rate exceeding the association
1 16 rate.
