1 1 Section 1. Section 260C.14, Code 1997, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 2A. Cause to be printed on all statements
1 4 of account for payment of tuition and fees issued by the
1 5 community college the portion of the average cost of an Iowa
1 6 resident student's education at that community college that is
1 7 paid by appropriations from the general fund of the state.
1 8 The information, rounded to the nearest one-tenth of one
1 9 percent and the nearest whole dollar, shall be included in the
1 10 following statement:
1 11 "Tuition pays for approximately ____% of the average cost
1 12 for a resident Iowa student at this community college. The
1 13 State of Iowa pays approximately $____ of the average cost for
1 14 a full-time state resident student at this community college."
1 15 Sec. 2. Section 262.9, Code 1997, is amended by adding the
1 16 following new subsection:
1 17 NEW SUBSECTION. 30. Cause to be printed on all statements
1 18 of account for payment of tuition and fees issued by each
1 19 institution of higher learning under the control of the board
1 20 the portion of the average cost of an Iowa resident student's
1 21 education at the institution issuing the statement that is
1 22 paid by appropriations from the general fund of the state.
1 23 The information, rounded to the nearest one-tenth of one
1 24 percent and the nearest whole dollar, shall be included in the
1 25 following statement:
1 26 "Tuition pays for approximately ____% of the average cost
1 27 for a resident Iowa student at this institution of higher
1 28 learning. The State of Iowa pays approximately $____ of the
1 29 average cost for a full-time state resident student at this
1 30 institution of higher learning."
1 31 Sec. 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of
1 32 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.
1 33 EXPLANATION
1 34 This bill requires the boards of directors of each
1 35 community college and the state board of regents to cause each
2 1 statement of account for payment of tuition and fees issued by
2 2 each state institution of higher learning to include a
2 3 statement disclosing the approximate percentage of the issuing
2 4 institution's average cost of education that is state-paid,
2 5 and the approximate number of dollars paid by the state for
2 6 the average resident student's tuition at each state
2 7 institution.
2 8 The bill provides for an immediate effective date.
