  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  279.9B  REPORTS TO JUVENILE
  1  2 AUTHORITIES.
  1  3    The rules adopted under section 279.8 shall require, once
  1  4 school officials have been notified by a juvenile court
  1  5 officer that a student attending the school is under
  1  6 supervision or has been placed on probation, that school
  1  7 officials shall notify the juvenile court of each unexcused
  1  8 absence or suspension or expulsion of the student.
  1  9    Sec. 2.  Section 331.653, subsection 4, Code 1997, is
  1 10 amended to read as follows:
  1 11    4.  Provide bailiff and other law enforcement service to
  1 12 the district judges, district associate judges, associate
  1 13 juvenile judges, judicial hospitalization referees, and
  1 14 judicial magistrates of the county upon request.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill makes several changes relating to juvenile court
  1 17 services.  The first provision requires that rules adopted by
  1 18 boards of directors of public schools require that once school
  1 19 officials have been notified that a student is under
  1 20 supervision or has been placed on probation, the school
  1 21 officials must notify the juvenile court of each unexcused
  1 22 absence or suspension or expulsion of the student.  The second
  1 23 change is to add associate juvenile judges and judicial
  1 24 hospitalization referees to the list of judicial officers for
  1 25 whom a sheriff is to provide bailiff and other law enforcement
  1 26 services.
  1 27    This bill may create a state mandate under chapter 25B.
