1 1 Section 1. The department of economic development shall
1 2 submit a report to the general assembly as provided in section
1 3 7A.11 by January 1, 1999, which includes all of the following:
1 4 1. A survey of all business, industry, and agriculture-
1 5 related international trade activities in this state. The
1 6 survey shall include the types of businesses and the products
1 7 involved in international trade and the estimated costs and
1 8 revenues resulting from such trade.
1 9 2. A list of specific targets and targeted opportunities
1 10 for business, industry, and agriculture related to
1 11 international trade activities in this state. These targets
1 12 shall include the types of businesses and the products that
1 13 are currently involved in international trade, as well as the
1 14 types of businesses and the products that could potentially
1 15 become involved in international trade in the future.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill requires the department of economic development
1 18 to submit a report to the general assembly by January 1, 1999,
1 19 on the status of international trade development in the state.
1 20 The bill requires the department to survey the types of
1 21 businesses and the products involved in international trade
1 22 and the estimated costs and revenues resulting from such trade
1 23 in the state. The bill also requires the department to
1 24 provide specific targets and targeted opportunities for
1 25 international trade in the state. The targets must include
1 26 the types of businesses and the products that are currently
1 27 involved in international trade, as well as the types of
1 28 businesses and the products that could potentially become
1 29 involved in international trade in the future.
