  1  4 RELATING TO LEGAL SETTLEMENT REGARDING PROVIDERS OF TREAT-
  1  5    MENT OR SERVICES.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 252.16, subsection 8, Code 1997, is
  1 10 amended to read as follows:
  1 11    8.  A person receiving treatment or support services from
  1 12 any community based provider of, whether organized for
  1 13 pecuniary profit or not or whether supported by charitable or
  1 14 public or private funds, that provides treatment or services
  1 15 for mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental
  1 16 health, brain injury, or substance abuse does not acquire
  1 17 legal settlement in the host county in which the site of the
  1 18 provider is located unless the person continuously resides in
  1 19 the host that county for one year from the date of the last
  1 20 treatment or support service received by the person.
