PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 556F.8, Code 1997, is amended to read 1 2 as follows: 1 3 556F.8 ADVERTISEMENT. 1 4 Thefinder of such lost goods, money, bank notes, or other1 5things, shall forthwithauditor shall give written notice of 1 6 the finding of such property.SuchThe notice shall contain 1 7 an accurate description of the property and a statement as to 1 8 the time when and place where thesameproperty was found, and1 9the post-office address of the finder.SaidThe notice shall 1 10 be made as follows: 1 11 1.BeNotice shall be posted at the door, or other 1 12 conspicuous place, of the courthouse in the county in which 1 13 the property was foundand in three other of the most public1 14places in the said county; and. 1 15 2.In caseIf the property foundshall exceed tenexceeds 1 16 five hundred dollars in value as determined by the auditor, in 1 17 addition to the notice provided under subsection 1, the notice 1 18 shall be published once each week for three consecutive weeks 1 19 in some newspaper published in and having general circulation 1 20 insaidthe county. 1 21 Sec. 2. Section 556F.9, Code 1997, is amended to read as 1 22 follows: 1 23 556F.9 RECORD OF PUBLICATION. 1 24 Proof of publication ofsaidnoticeand of the posting1 25thereofshall be made byaffidavitsaffidavit of the publisher 1 26and the person posting said noticesof the notice, andsaid1 27affidavitsthe affidavit shall be filed in the office of the 1 28 county auditor ofsaidthe county. 1 29 Sec. 3. Section 556F.14, Code 1997, is amended to read as 1 30 follows: 1 31 556F.14 COSTS, CHARGES AND CARE ASSESSMENT. 1 32 The owner shall also be required to pay the finder or 1 33 auditor all such costs and charges as may have been paid by 1 34 the finder or auditor for services rendered as aforesaid, 1 35 including the cost of publication, together with reasonable 2 1 charges for keeping and taking care of such property, which 2 2 last mentioned charge, in case the finder and the owner cannot 2 3 agree, shall be assessed by two disinterested householders of 2 4 the neighborhood, to be appointed by some magistratejudgeof 2 5 the proper county, whose decision, when made, shall be binding 2 6 and conclusive on all parties. 2 7 SF 398 2 8 mj/cc/26
