1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 617.6A PLACES OF BUSINESS AND
1 2 EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
1 3 1. A business establishment or educational institution may
1 4 designate a specific location on its premises for service of
1 5 process on an employee or student of the business
1 6 establishment or educational institution.
1 7 2. A business establishment or educational institution
1 8 designating a location on its premises for service of process
1 9 pursuant to subsection 1 shall post a conspicuous notice at
1 10 the entrance to the premises indicating the location for
1 11 service of process.
1 12 3. If a business establishment or educational institution
1 13 has complied with the provisions of subsections 1 and 2, then
1 14 the location designated for service of process by such a
1 15 business establishment or educational institution shall be the
1 16 exclusive place on the premises of the business establishment
1 17 or educational institution where service of process may be
1 18 properly made on an employee or student of the establishment
1 19 or institution.
1 20 4. This section applies only to service of process in
1 21 civil cases.
1 22 EXPLANATION
1 23 This bill adds a new section to Code chapter 617 to allow a
1 24 business establishment or educational institution to designate
1 25 an exclusive location upon its premises for service of process
1 26 in civil cases upon its employees or students. If a business
1 27 or educational institution posts a conspicuous notice at the
1 28 entrance to its premises indicating that location for service
1 29 of process, the designated location is the only proper place
1 30 for service of process on the premises.
