1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, Code 1997, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 23. DISABLED VETERAN PLATES.
1 4 An owner referred to in subsection 12 who is a disabled
1 5 veteran entitled to compensation under 38 U.S.C. ch. 11 may,
1 6 upon written application to the department, order special
1 7 registration plates with a disabled veteran processed emblem.
1 8 The emblem shall be designed by the department in cooperation
1 9 with the commission of veterans affairs and shall signify that
1 10 the owner is a disabled veteran. The application is subject
1 11 to approval by the department, in consultation with the
1 12 commission of veterans affairs.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides for the creation of a disabled veteran
1 15 special registration plate. An owner of a motor vehicle who
1 16 is a disabled veteran entitled to compensation under federal
1 17 law and whose application is approved by the state department
1 18 of transportation in consultation with the commission of
1 19 veterans affairs may receive license plates bearing an emblem
1 20 signifying that the owner is a disabled veteran. Disabled
1 21 veteran special plates are subject to the same $25 special
1 22 plate fee as other processed emblem special plates.
