1 1 Section 1. Section 56.42, subsection 2, Code 1997, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 2. a. If an unexpended balance of campaign funds remains
1 4 in the committee's account when a candidate's committee
1 5 dissolves, the unexpended balance shall be transferred
1 6 pursuant to subsection 1.
1 7 b. If an unexpended balance of campaign funds remains in
1 8 the account of a candidate's committee for at least five years
1 9 after the candidate's last day of service in a public office,
1 10 the unexpended balance may be transferred pursuant to
1 11 subsection 1, paragraph "b".
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill amends Code chapter 56 to permit a transfer of
1 14 funds remaining in a candidate's account to a national, state,
1 15 or local political party after the candidate has not served in
1 16 public office for five years.
