1 2 BY GETTINGS, DEARDEN, HORN, PALMER, and GRONSTAL
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution urging support of legislation
1 4 to prohibit the hiring of permanent striker replace-
1 5 ment workers.
1 6 WHEREAS, the right to strike is of critical
1 7 importance to all working Iowans in providing workers
1 8 the ability to bargain with their employers for fair
1 9 wages and working conditions; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the right to strike is a hollow and
1 11 meaningless right if permanent replacement workers can
1 12 be hired to replace striking workers; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the permanent hiring of striker
1 14 replacement workers is extremely uncommon in every
1 15 industrial country, including Japan, except in the
1 16 United States and South Africa; NOW THEREFORE,
1 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 18 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa
1 19 congressional delegation is urged to consider
1 20 legislation concerning the hiring of striker
1 21 replacement workers.
1 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
1 23 resolution be sent to the Governor, the President of
1 24 the United States, the President of the United States
1 25 Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of
1 26 Representatives, and members of Iowa's congressional
1 27 delegation.
