1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ________
1 2 BY HORN
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the notable
1 4 achievements of the Jefferson High School Marching
1 5 Band from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Earle Dickinson, Band Director, and
1 7 the Jefferson High School Marching Band in Cedar
1 8 Rapids, Iowa, traveled to Pasadena, California, during
1 9 the last week of December 1997 and the first week of
1 10 January 1998 to participate in festivities conducted
1 11 by the Tournament of Roses Committee; and
1 12 WHEREAS, the contingent traveling to California
1 13 from Jefferson High School consisted of 380 people,
1 14 including 315 marching band members; and
1 15 WHEREAS, members of the Jefferson High School
1 16 Marching Band raised $350,000 to aid in financing the
1 17 eight-day trip; and
1 18 WHEREAS, the Jefferson High School Marching Band
1 19 performed at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and the
1 20 Tournament of Roses Committee's Band Fest during their
1 21 stay in California; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the Jefferson High School Marching Band
1 23 was one of only 12 high school marching bands
1 24 worldwide, including two international high school
1 25 marching bands from Canada and Thailand, invited to
1 26 perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade on January
1 27 1, 1998, in Pasadena, California; and
1 28 WHEREAS, the Jefferson High School Marching Band
1 29 performed in front of 1 million people on the parade
1 30 route of the Tournament of Roses Parade and in front
2 1 of 450 million people on the telecast of the Parade;
2 2 NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
2 4 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That Mr. Earle Dickinson
2 5 and the Jefferson High School Marching Band be
2 6 recognized and congratulated for their participation
2 7 in the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 1998;
2 8 and
2 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon passage, an
2 10 enrolled copy of this Resolution be sent to Band
2 11 Director Earle Dickinson of Jefferson High School.
