1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 2746HH BY KREMER)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution proclaiming the creation
1 5 of the Iowa Veterans Foundation.
1 6 WHEREAS, the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs
1 7 recognizes the needs of Iowa veterans who have served
1 8 both the state of Iowa and the nation with a deep
1 9 sense of patriotism; and
1 10 WHEREAS, men and women who have served in the Armed
1 11 Forces of the United States now comprise over one-
1 12 third of the population of the state; and
1 13 WHEREAS, it is necessary for many of these
1 14 returning veterans to avail themselves of educational,
1 15 health care, housing, employment opportunity, and
1 16 other personal need services; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs
1 18 has created a charitable Iowa Veterans Foundation
1 19 dedicated to the betterment and well-being of Iowa's
1 20 veterans and their families; and
1 21 WHEREAS, the Foundation was established to assist
1 22 in funding medical research, purchasing life-saving
1 23 medical equipment, and providing health care services
1 24 and equipment for veterans wishing to pursue
1 25 independent living; and
1 26 WHEREAS, the Foundation will provide scholarships
1 27 to veterans and their families, will erect memorials
1 28 and cemeteries, and will provide perpetual care for
1 29 Iowa's infirm veterans; NOW THEREFORE,
1 30 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
2 1 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
2 2 Assembly hereby proclaims April 9, 1997, a special day
2 3 signifying the importance of this newly established
2 4 foundation to Iowa veterans.
